I am pleased to say that I just ordered a brand new Peterson Kapet Volcano/Rhodesian from smokingpipes.com. This pipe caught my eye immediately and I knew I had to have it. Having always been a huge fan of Peterson pipes, specifically their affordability and smoke-ability, this was an easy purchase. This B32 shape is as a very non-traditional look which is very unexpected for a Peterson, it almost has a danish flair to it, especially that top of the bowl.

I love Eric N. Squires description of the lovely pipe: “The stem, shank, and underside of the bowl are classic Peterson shaping, and classic shaping for this pipe’s defined type as well, but once one rises above the single bead, that’s all over and done with. Here, instead, we have a decidedly volcano-like form thrusting upward, complete with cocked rim which one would half-swear was sneering at our pedestrian expectations.”

I cannot wait to break in this pipe! I’ll be sure to update everyone once I get the pipe in hand. And to sweeten the deal smokingpipes.com is offering a free tin of Peterson tobacco with any pipe purchase. Pipe and tobacco for under $65.00, a great deal I must say. (no affiliation with smokingpipes.com, just a happy customer)

Here is yet another Peterson Tobacco review. I have been overall pleased with the quality, flavor and room note of Peterson blends and Sunset Breeze is no exception. In fact this might be my favorite Peterson aromatic I’ve tried thus far. This smoke is top notch. The tin is a bit moist like most Peterson tobacco tins, but after about 3o minutes of drying it was perfect. I also scored big and found this tin at a local tobacco shop that rarely sells tins, and this one had been sitting for exactly 2 years on the shelf! Perfectly **aged** (correction not “aged” but mellowed out ) and ready for instant enjoyment. The tin aroma is great with a non overpowering amaretto smell with a vanilla/carmel finish.

Sunset Breeze burns nice and slow and the room note is wonderful, my wife even commented that she enjoys the smell of this one. The burley gives this smoke a very well rounded and mellow taste. It also smokes extremely cool (again I attribute this to time left to dry out a bit) and leaves my pipes surprisingly dry. I highly recommend this Burley, Black cavendish, Virginia mix. Happy Smoking.

I excitedly purchased this tin about a year a half ago, expecting great things from this aromatic that dawned the name of the pipe legend himself. When I opened the tin I was met with a very powerful fig/fruity aroma. I am sad to say that smoking was not nearly as exciting as the aroma, it was almost tasteless, it about charred my tongue and it seemed to burn very wet. Needless to say I was very disappointed. Almost sure that I would never try it again I put it in the bottom of my tobacco bag and forgot about it. Then about two weeks ago I caught a glimpse of the purple tin and thought, who knows maybe 18 months of aging did something magical to old Sherlock. It sure did! I am now a huge believer in aging tobacco, the tongue bite went away, it had dried out enough to make it a cool smoke, and the taste and room note seemed to even change. The smell and taste reminded my of sitting in an elk lodge with friends. It is musty, with a touch of sweetness. If you are a fan of aromatics like I am, buy some Sherlock Holmes and then immediately forget about it. No offense Sherlock. Happy smoking.
